Drama Development Producer / Executive
As Development Producer you will report to the joint CEO’s to expand our development slate and work collaboratively with a talented creative team to deliver high-end scripted content for domestic and international audiences.
As Development Producer it is expected that you will work over a number of projects at any given time, all likely to be at different stages of production; idea, treatment, picked up and developed, scripts commissioned and production stage.
Key Responsibilities
Specifically, you will:
Support a strong creative vision across the drama development slate, combined with a comprehensive understanding of the content strategy of UK broadcasters and international networks.
Provide in-depth knowledge of script analysis and assessment to produce industry standard script reports and programme proposals.
Shape ideas into drama pitches and be confident in pitching to commissioners in the UK and Internationally, ensuring that proposals, taster tapes, run-throughs and pilots are produced to an exceptional standard.
Work with writers to ensure that once a script has been commissioned it is developed and delivered to the highest possible standard according to parameters agreed by Execs and that meets the needs of specific channels.
Constantly seek out interesting stories and new writing talent.
Assist in any other aspects of the work of the Company as reasonably required.
Skills and Experience
This position requires an individual with the following:
Essential Criteria
A proven track record and breadth of experience in script editing, development and/or production of TV drama, and a good knowledge of how the UK TV drama business works.
Demonstrable depth of experience in generating distinctive, original and commercially viable drama ideas, and the ability to develop them and convert them into viable development projects.
Writer Relationships including proven creative relationships with experienced writers and a proven track record in working with up and coming writers.
Proven ability to nurture and develop those relationships to generate viable development projects from them.
Excellent proposal writing skills and attention to detail, with the ability to turn a top line idea into a viable pitch.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as required, and to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Originality in brainstorms, with the ability to illustrate and express a strong creative point of view, bringing a developed taste for storytelling and a keen sense of what ideas work.
Good relationships with multiple agents providing access to a broad range of drama talent.
Desirable Criteria
An established network of industry relationships that will drive delivery of new commissions and new business to support a growing drama slate.
A basic understanding of copyright law, writers guild agreements, contracts and the legal implications of the production process.
Basic skills to produce and cut attention grabbing taster tapes.
Good design skills using programmes that will enhance he look and design of written proposals.
An avid viewer and lover of all types of telly, who keeps a close eye on emerging industry trends and changing commissioning needs with the ability to adapt your approach accordingly.
A positive attitude to the challenges of developing new shows in a crowded market.
